1. Eat right
Try to eat as healthy as is possible.
Include five portions of veggies and fruits every day, and lots of carbs should also form a part of your daily meal, including rice, pasta, and bread. Try to opt for whole grain carbs instead of white, as they offer you lots of fiber.
Do not forget to include protein rich foods like eggs, lean meat, pulses or nuts, and some milk and dairy products. Omega-3 fatty acids are also very important as it helps in the development of the nervous system of your baby, so do get you share from fishes or other omega-3 rich foods.
2. Exercise on a regular basis
Regular exercise can allow you to enjoy many benefits – it builds your endurance and strength that can be useful during labor, it helps you get back into shape after childbirth, and it boosts your mood and helps keep depression at bay.
Brisk walking, yoga, Pilates, and swimming are amongst some exercises that you can practice during your pregnancy period.
3. Avoid alcohol
Remember, any alcohol you drink shall reach your baby through your placenta and blood stream.
There can be no way to determine exactly how much alcohol can be safe during pregnancy, so it is best to avoid it completely. Drinking during the first semester can even lead to a miscarriage.
Moms-to-be, who drink on a regular basis, have a higher chance of giving birth to babies with FASD (fetal alcohol spectrum disorders).
4. Avoid caffeine
Cola, energy drinks, tea, and coffee are mild stimulants.
Too much caffeine can also increase chances of miscarriage, or may increase risks of you giving birth to a low-birth-weight child.
As per current guidelines, up to 200 mg of caffeine a day is not bad for your baby, and this is equal to two mugs of instant coffee.
5. No Smoking
Smoking is very bad for women’s health pregnant period.
It can lead to serious health issues for both your baby and you.
It can cause miscarriage, low birth weight, premature birth, and worst still can even lead to loss of the baby at birth.
The father-to-be too needs to give up on smoking, as passive smoking is equally injurious to the health of both the baby and mom-to-be.
